Turbocharger make a diesel engine run better by design. Immediately, The Ford Motor Firm installs a Turbocharger on a Ford Powerstroke diesel engine on each F-Series diesel truck for higher torque and horsepower. Imagine it or not, Ford’s Powerstroke diesel engines had been once manufactured and bought without turbos. Set up a Turbocharger on a Ford Powerstroke diesel engine to get all of the efficiency and turbo energy that late model Powerstrokes enjoy right off the manufacturing facility floor.

Ford Powerstroke Diesel Turbocharger Installation

1. Minimize the exhaust pipe 6 inches after the “Y” pipe meets up with the only exhaust pipe below the passenger compartment of the truck. Loosen and remove the four nuts that hold the exhaust flange together. Pull the “Y” pipe free from each of the exhaust manifolds. Eliminate or recycle the outdated “Y” pipe.
2. Look contained in the engine bay above the transmission housing at the back of the engine on the passenger’s aspect of the truck. There is a lip of steel that runs across the transmission housing and makes up a junction of two pieces of the firewall. Pound the lip flat so that the turbocharger down pipe will be related to the exhaust port of the turbo housing and sent back down to connect the new turbocharger to the previous exhaust system.
3. Install the exhaust manifold up pipe that the turbo mounts to up through the area created by the flattening of the sheet steel lip on the passenger’s side of the transmission. At the base of the up pipe is a flange that can connect on to the passenger’s side exhaust manifold. Safe this flange loosely with two flange bolts and two flange bolt nuts. The up pipe must be safe enough to secure the turbo housing to it, however not so tight that no adjustment could be made.
4. Attach the turbo housing to the top of the turbo up pipe securely. Make adjustments to the alignment by tightening and loosening the flange bolts on the base of the turbo up pipe. Insert the exhaust down pipe up by the remaining house provided by flattening the metal lip of the firewall. Some work may must be completed to the transmission housing to allow the down pipe into the space. Lower off any tabs that may be faraway from the edges of the transmission housing to allow for the down pipe to be installed.
5. Join an oil feed line to the turbocharger in order that the turbo compressor wheel is appropriately lubricated throughout use. Use the manufacturing facility oil sending unit hooked up to the turbo housing to draw oil up from the underside of the oil pan. Drill and faucet a feed line into the side of the oil pan and run a line again as much as the turbo, being careful not to run the new oil line too close to heat sources such as the exhaust, engine, or turbocharger itself. Install an oil drain line back into the top of the engine’s intake manifold using an current plug because the place to insert a grommet to carry the drain tube
6. Join the driving force’s side exhaust manifold to the brand new turbo up pipe just under the junction of the turbo up pipe and passenger’s aspect exhaust manifold. Finish by connecting the turbo down pipe to the prevailing exhaust system after which overlaying the air intake of the turbocharger with a high movement air filter. The brand new turbocharger is prepared for use.

Ford Powerstroke Diesel Turbocharger Installation Tips

Do not tighten anything completely before checking for alignment needs with the remaining parts. The exhaust pipes, new manifold “Y” connector, turbo up pipe, and oil feed lines all need to be perfectly positioned prior to fastening securely to prevent leaks in the system.
